Responses

200 Visible sources with status, products, records, completedParts and totalParts. ready describes the listed indexed products, not complete world coverage. partial and waiting sources may have missing or unprocessed block data. savedObjects gives positioned-object counts for completed location galleries; absent means this derivative is not available. records remains the block-observation count.

Parameters

NameInTypeRequiredDescription
DimensionquerystringoptionalNative dimension: overworld (default), nether or end. Coordinates are not scaled between dimensions.
Kindquerystringoptionalsign, storage, portal, bedrock, spawner, endPortalFrame, petrifiedOakSlab, mob, mapArt, banner, itemFrame or object. Saved objects retain their capture identity; block positions combine repeated captures.
Kindsqueryarrayoptionalsign, storage, portal, bedrock, spawner, endPortalFrame, petrifiedOakSlab, mob, mapArt, banner, itemFrame or object. Saved objects retain their capture identity; block positions combine repeated captures.
Sourcequerystringoptionalall (default), nocom, wdl, primary, or an exact source ID returned by /api/find/sources. Unknown IDs and explicitly selected sources without searchable coverage return HTTP 400.
SourcesqueryarrayoptionalRepeat sources to combine all, nocom, wdl, primary, or exact IDs from /api/find/sources. Omitted sources search all indexed public data. Overlapping family/member selections are deduplicated. Unknown IDs and explicitly selected sources without searchable coverage return HTTP 400.
TextquerystringoptionalUp to 100 characters. Matches saved sign text, captured container items or saved object names. Categories without searchable text remain visible.
Matchquerystringoptionalphrase (default) is a literal substring; word matches one whole word; allWords requires every word in one captured version. Matching uses Unicode NFKC and ignores case, Minecraft color codes and repeated whitespace.
ChangedSignsquerybooleanoptionalDefault false. For signs, require differing captured text at the same XYZ among selected visible sources. Other categories remain visible.
HideBlankSignsquerybooleanoptionalHide signs without saved text. Ignores whitespace and Minecraft formatting; other categories remain visible. Default false.
ContentsRecordedquerybooleanoptionalDefault false. true retains only storage observations with a saved inventory, including explicitly empty containers. Other selected kinds remain visible. Matching capture counts use qualifying observations only. Map overviews use precomputed summaries; inventory files are not fetched by map requests.
HideEmptyquerybooleanoptionalStorage only: require saved items, excluding empty and unknown inventories. Other selected categories are unchanged. Stricter than ContentsRecorded; defaults to false.
BlockTypequerystringoptionalOptional exact Minecraft block or entity ID, with or without the minecraft: prefix; at most 100 characters.
Xqueryinteger / stringoptionalNative X origin. Supply with z for a circular search; supported coordinate range is -33554432 through 33554431.
Zqueryinteger / stringoptionalNative Z origin. Supply with x; no Overworld/Nether conversion is performed.
Radiusqueryinteger / stringoptionalRadius in blocks when x/z are supplied: 1–65536, default 1024.
MinXqueryinteger / stringoptionalInclusive native X minimum. Supply all four rectangle bounds. Required for map queries; intersects an optional radius.
MinZqueryinteger / stringoptionalInclusive native Z minimum. Supply all four rectangle bounds. Required for map queries.
MaxXqueryinteger / stringoptionalInclusive native X maximum, at least minX. Required for map queries.
MaxZqueryinteger / stringoptionalInclusive native Z maximum, at least minZ. Required for map queries.
MinYqueryinteger / stringoptionalInclusive minimum Y, default -2048; supported range -2048 through 2047.
MaxYqueryinteger / stringoptionalInclusive maximum Y, default 2047; must be at least minY.
FromquerystringoptionalInclusive date YYYY-MM-DD. Matches recorded reads or declared capture dates, never inferred placement dates. Unknown dates do not match.
ToquerystringoptionalInclusive end date YYYY-MM-DD. Aggregated NoCom blocks match recorded first/last endpoints, not invented reads between them.
Sortquerystringoptionalnewest (default), oldest, or nearest (requires x/z). Multiple-category search pages balance categories before sorting within each category.
Limitqueryinteger / stringoptionalSearch page size: 1–50, default 25. Map queries validate but ignore this field and represent every match.
Offsetqueryinteger / stringoptionalNonnegative search offset, default 0. All results are browsable; follow nextOffset until null. Map queries validate but ignore this field.
NamedOnlyquerybooleanoptionalOnly explicitly named saved objects; block categories are unchanged.
RenderIdsqueryarray of integersoptionalRestrict results to 1–100 public location captures. Repeat renderIds for each capture.

Responses

200 total, nextOffset and distinct category/XYZ results. observation is the representative captured version; matchingCaptures counts selected sources that match the filters. detailsJson is JSON-encoded: storage may contain inventoryDeferred, inventoryListSaved, properties and savedDetailUrl. Load inventory only on expansion; if deferred without a URL, find the same observation id in history. Unknown contents are not an empty inventory. locationId plus captureUrl identifies a 3D capture; NoCom has no associated 3D WDL. Mobs, map art, banners, item frames and other objects are capture-specific. detailsJson.savedObject contains the object ID, generation and navigation links. Saved objects also expose displayName, customName and savedObject identity/links as structured fields. customName is null without an explicit saved name. Legacy detailsJson is retained for compatibility and full saved attributes.

Responses

200 total equals the sum of items[].mapCount. cellSize is the actual cell width; broad views coarsen instead of truncating. mapSummary supplies a position-weighted center, Y range and block-type counts. Duplicate source captures count once. Keep the same category, sources and filters when paging /api/find within mapBounds. Storage inventory payloads stay deferred. This response is not paginated.

The base was griefed a single week after construction began, and completely wiped out in the following months.\n\nThe landscape of the area was generated in 1.6. The first known people who reached the area were Pyrobyte and iTristan on December 7th, 2013 (most likely with a backdoor). They left a bedrock platform on the other side of the border, with two signs, reading:\n\n\"It's the end of the world -Pyrobyte December 7 2013\"\n\n\"iTristan was here. If you see this, shit went down\"\n\niTristan also left the 121 book from the Mein Kampf collection, created by Victormeriqui, and a super weapon on the other side of the border.\n\nOn December 9th 2016, Byrnsy started a journey towards the very same place, thus formed the +X Digging Group. It was established that once they reach the World Border, they were going to build a base there, just like they did at other notable points. They named it Point Nemo, after the oceanic pole of inaccessibility - the furthest point on Earth from land, located in the Southern Pacific Ocean.\n\nOn March 26th, 2017, the first group of diggers - househousehouse1, xxq, irql, rasqi, miningminecraft, and several others - reached the World Border, and discovered Pyro's and iTristan's signs. They also manged to retrieve the Mein Kampf book.\n\nAs other group members also arrived, the building of the base started. On March 28th, when Byrnsy finished his journey, the place had already started to take shape. However, a day later, it was griefed.\n\nOn April 24th, Fit finished his own journey to the world border, and several of the former diggers, including Byrnsy, gathered at the partially repaired base as a formal welcome party.\n\nOn April 30th, the base was griefed again.\n\nDuring May, the base was fully destroyed, and lavacasted beyond repair.",

Integration notes

How Archive captures and replacements work

The collector saves what the Archive server sends. It visits a warp and saves chunks as it surveys the area. Some exhibits place the original build over older terrain to fill the surrounding regions. Our download can include both. A rectangular trim cannot recover the original's uneven edges and holes.

Replace it with the original ZIP. Upload, review and commit through the HTTP API, or review and apply the upload in Admin. The warp, location and render keep their IDs.

Download, 2D, Find and galleries
Use the original ZIP. Atlas rebuilds its 2D tiles and indexes its signs, inventories, mobs, map art and other saved objects.
BlueMap
The comparison decides whether to keep the render, rebuild it from the original's terrain, visible objects and map data, or hold for review. Compatible surroundings from the old capture can remain as context from another or unknown date. They are not added to the original's 2D map or Find results. There is no force override.
Recovery
Atlas retains the previous ZIP and revision. The owner can restore the previous published revision. Replacement access does not grant rollback or account controls.

Collector checks measure the survey, not an original WDL we have not received. The surrounding 3D context comes from the old capture; choosing a basemap closest in date is not implemented. The separate 1M source is outside this process.

  • Requests: use https://api.blackportal.cloud/api. This website's /api is documentation; OpenAPI's v1 is not a route prefix.
  • Identifiers: Locations, warps and renders have separate IDs. Follow the returned URLs. A null download or 3D link means that output is not available.
  • Dates: worldDownloadDate is the historical capture date, not when Atlas downloaded the file. It can be YYYY-MM-DD, YYYY-MM, YYYY or unknown. Where returned, captureDatePrecision is day, month, year or null. Do not invent a day for a partial date. MCP find_recently_added_or_modified uses Atlas location timestamps, not a complete change log.
  • Location, group and highway links: Use interactiveUrl for links and citations. These pages include readable content and JSON-LD without JavaScript. Older recordUrl links redirect to them with HTTP 301. Follow redirects when fetching HTML. Capture records also provide locationRecordUrl and locationInteractiveUrl. Use apiUrl or JSONL catalogs when your code needs JSON. Old merged location IDs redirect directly to their current interactive page.
  • Downloads: use the full downloadUrl, including its checksum query parameter. Compare the downloaded file's SHA-256 with the metadata. After 409, refresh that metadata. WDLs contain only saved parts of the historical world.
  • Find sources: Repeat kinds and sources to combine categories, source families or specific captures. Omitting sources searches all indexed public sources. Check /api/find/sources for supported categories and processing coverage before interpreting missing results.
  • Find map coverage: use /api/find/map with viewport bounds and a zoom-appropriate cellSize. Its groups cover every match; /api/find is a separate paged results list. Block counts combine captures at the same dimension, category and XYZ. Mobs and other saved objects retain their capture identity. Keep all filters when paging into a group. Block history includes all public captures at that position.
  • Saved objects: use mob, mapArt, banner, itemFrame or object. Filter with namedOnly or renderIds. Exact object links preserve the capture and viewpoint.
  • Sign text: hideBlankSigns=true excludes signs without saved text, including whitespace or formatting alone.
  • Saved inventories: contentsRecorded=true includes recorded empty containers; hideEmpty=true requires saved items. Both filters affect storage only. Storage excludes ender chest blocks. Read inventory metadata from detailsJson, then use an observation's id with /api/find/inventory to page items and nested contents. Unknown contents are distinct from empty containers. NoCom did not record inventories, so either filter excludes its storage.
  • Limits: Follow cache headers, avoid parallel bulk requests and back off on 429/503, honoring Retry-After. MCP's origin limit is 120 requests/client/minute.
Lists, paging & discovery

Catalog lists are arrays. Locations, groups and highways return full collections; use MCP for filtered searches. Renders, warps and attachments accept limit (default 500, maximum 1,000) and offset. Renders sort by dimension then ID; warps and attachments sort by ID. Add the number received to the offset and stop after a page shorter than the requested limit. Keep filters unchanged and remove duplicate IDs if the catalog changes while paging.

Fast map loading: /api/locations/map returns coordinates, descriptions, tags, wiki/video links, group IDs/names/roles, warp capture dates and public tile descriptors, ordered by rowid and cached for 30 seconds. It omits attachments, download provenance and 3D catalogs. Load /api/locations/{id} for the complete selected record. Map render entries use id; the standalone render catalog uses renderId.

Compact menus: /api/locations/directory returns all directory rows with descriptions, groups, exact public counts and preferred map/warp/download actions, cached for 30 seconds. /api/find/source-options returns source names and availability fields for selectors; use /api/find/sources for full indexing coverage and provenance. Search requests revalidate source availability.

Warp pages also return X-Total-Count and X-Next-Offset headers. Both are exposed to browser clients through CORS. An empty next-offset header marks the last page; the array-length paging rule works without the headers too. Only the parameters listed for each route are supported. A successful response does not establish that an unknown filter was applied.

/api/renders lists base renders. /api/maprenders lists registered primary layers; /api/maprenders/catalog combines primary and location layers, including built-ins. WDL JSONL is a static release snapshot. Use the API for current metadata. Waypoint exports are generated in the map UI.

Bulk access: the data directory links release snapshots for locations, groups, highways and world downloads. JSONL contains one JSON object per line. These website files are separate from the live REST API. Follow their source links and retain third-party attribution.

Coordinates, tiles & historical evidence

Dimensions: 0 Overworld, 1 Nether, 2 End. Legacy PHP uses -1 Nether and 1 End. Bounds use native blocks, inclusive minimums and exclusive maximums; rectangles may contain absent chunks. Warp archiveX/Y/Z is the saved arrival, which may differ from the location marker.

Tile paths use {z}/{y}/{x} and, when enabled, {dn} for day/night. Schemes: xyz-v1, signed atlas-sparse-v1, and place-proxy. ZIPs support Range requests and digest ETags. Hashes in retained Archive replacement history still resolve to their original ZIPs. A missing or non-retained digest does not fall back to the current ZIP; refresh the download metadata.

Prefer interactiveUrl for human links and citations; retain recordUrl as a stable provenance alias and preserve original sources. Follow its redirect for HTML, or use apiUrl or JSONL for JSON. isSinglePlayerConcept=true marks offline concepts. Highway distances use documented polyline centerlines, not verified junctions or live routes. NoCom World Pulse counts repeated observations, not players or visits; period/direction totals cannot answer activity near a specific base.

NoCom Find: GET /api/nocom and MCP get_nocom_dataset return a find descriptor with full-source counts, native dimension coverage, canonical citation URL, immutable JSON manifest and integrity hashes. Find data format and access guide.

Daily NoCom hits: GET /api/nocom/hits and MCP get_nocom_daily_dataset expose complete raw-source coverage, per-day gzip CSV downloads and daily map tiles. Use /api/nocom/hits/daily or get_nocom_daily_hits for exact UTC counts: up to 366 days globally or 31 days inside a native-block rectangle no larger than 16,384 blocks per axis. All four bounds are required together and maximums are inclusive. Intersecting 16×16 chunks count in full. Use /api/nocom/hits/chunks or find_nocom_daily_chunks for up to 1,000 chunk rows per page; keep filters unchanged when following nextCursor.

The NoCom products are built from over 13 billion released block records and positive chunk observations. This counts repeated source records, not unique blocks or players; it excludes derived monthly totals. Use named dimensions (overworld, nether, end) for these queries.

What you needUse
Daily totals for an area or dimension/api/nocom/hits/daily or get_nocom_daily_hits
Individual observed chunks on a day/api/nocom/hits/chunks or find_nocom_daily_chunks
Every chunk in a recorded day/dimensiondownloadCsvUrl in the daily response; discover every export through the release manifest
Daily map layers/api/nocom/hits/tiles/manifest; use its per-dimension classic/contrast templates, signed coordinates and zoom limits
Combined date-range mapThe tile manifest's range.urlTemplate; inclusive UTC from/to, maximum 4,096 days. Coverage union with strongest daily intensity, not summed pixel counts.
Original monthly/highway summaries/api/nocom/periods and /api/nocom/highways; fixed 30-day buckets, not calendar months
Captured sign versions and exact read times/api/nocom/find/sign-history and its ID detail endpoint

Daily area requests have a shared two-million-record scan budget and four query slots. Reduce the rectangle/date range if a request exceeds its budget; use CSV for bulk work. Retry temporary 503 responses with backoff. A missing day's coverage is no_observations_in_release; an absent tile is 404, while an unavailable release is 503. Preserve coverage fields rather than interpreting every empty result as inactivity.

Human links should open the interactive daily map. Use /map?dimension=overworld&nocom=pulse&day=2020-04-01 for a UTC date, resolution=monthly&period=2020-04-08 for a grouped period, or resolution=all. For a combined range use resolution=daily&from=2020-04-01&to=2020-04-07. The map's Copy link action retains the selected mode, dates, dimension and view. Keep API and file URLs as supporting data links.

Range maps retain every observed daily footprint without stacking opacity. Color shows the strongest daily rendered intensity; overview pixels are qualitative, not exact counts. The menu's range total sums exact daily observations for the whole dimension. Do not sum unique chunks across days. Range tiles are cached and generated from existing daily packs; they do not reprocess the raw dataset.

Daily frames include legacy observations from 2018 and additional final-period observations present in the raw release. The existing 30-day and all-time layers preserve their grouped-source coverage. Missing days do not prove inactivity. Follow tileManifestUrl for classic and high-contrast PNG templates; map colors are not exact count encodings.

Fetch storage/portal tiles, sign histories and cluster footprints using that manifest. These are historical block positions, not chest contents or current survival. Find source dimensions are 0 Overworld, -1 Nether and 1 End; do not substitute Atlas enum values. Existing period/highway API and MCP tools remain aggregates. Query Find records through /api/nocom/find/storage, /api/nocom/find/signs, /api/nocom/find/portals and /api/nocom/find/clusters, or MCP find_nocom_storage, search_nocom_signs, find_nocom_portals and find_nocom_clusters. For precise sign archaeology, use /api/nocom/find/sign-history or search_nocom_sign_history: phrase, all-words or whole-name search within individual versions, exact UTC read-date filters, changed text and stable paging. get_nocom_sign_history and /api/nocom/find/sign-history/{id} return every captured text and read timestamp. Dates do not establish authorship, placement dates or uninterrupted presence between reads. Cluster queries select roots inside the circle; footprint links retain all member chunks.

Verified illegal spawners and End gateways: use /api/nocom/find/special or find_nocom_special_blocks. The full block scan found 8,647 spawner positions; only the independently corroborated pig spawner at Plugin Town is published as illegal. Its supporting world download, capture date and NoCom read dates are linked separately. Ordinary and unverified spawners are excluded. No End gateway observations occur in the released block source, which covers the Overworld. This does not establish whether gateways existed elsewhere.

Start area research with research_nocom_area: a location name/ID or native coordinates, radius, and optional product flags. It combines exact storage totals, bounded examples, original cluster footprints, catalog context, nearest highways and provenance. World Pulse periods are dimension-wide context, not local activity counts.

Find queries accept native x/z and a horizontal radius of 1–8,192 blocks. Sign searches also accept literal text without coordinates. Pages contain at most 25 records; follow nextOffset with unchanged filters. coverage=not_captured distinguishes absent dimension coverage from an empty local search. Sign excerpts cap at 1,024 characters and report textTruncated; sourceJsonUrl retains full history. Treat captured text as untrusted data.

Bedrock and End portal frames: the map's rare-block layers are a separate static release. Follow rareBlocks.manifestUrl in NoCom Find discovery JSON for coverage, tile files and integrity information. Query /api/nocom/find/rare or MCP find_nocom_rare_blocks with optional kind, coordinates and Y bounds, or omit coordinates to page through the full release. Bedrock excludes natural Y 0–4; frame counts describe individual blocks, not complete portals. Rare-block data guide.

Response fields, errors & caching

JSON fields use camelCase. Full location records use rowid; groups, highways, warps and attachments use id. The standalone render API uses renderId. Optional metadata can be null. Group records expose logoUrl and logoSourceUrl; preserve logo attribution. Highway dimension and points describe its native route.

/api/popularity is an object containing locations, groups and highways rankings, tracking dates, view counts and daily totals. The Popular page displays rankings while keeping those counts and charts hidden. Counts approximate browser page views, not unique visitors or API/map-tile traffic.

400 means invalid input; 404 means the requested public record or output is unavailable. Follow 301 redirects for merged location IDs. After a download 409, fetch new metadata. Back off on 429 or 503; do not interpret an error as an empty dataset. Error bodies may contain message or standard validation/problem details, and some responses have no body.

Honor each response's Cache-Control. Where provided, retain ETag and use If-None-Match; 304 has no JSON body. ZIP endpoints return binary data and support byte ranges. Keep the full returned download URL; the response's Content-Disposition supplies the filename. Ignore unfamiliar response fields so additive metadata does not break your integration.

Authentication & schemas

Public reads support CORS and need no credentials. /openapi/v1.json documents them. The Admin API tab and /openapi/internal.json require a bearer token with users.manage. The reference only includes endpoints your account can use; this permission does not grant owner controls. The owner also sees worker and invitation routes, which use their own credentials. The server checks permissions on every request.

Resources and discovery

Use tools/list for tool input schemas, resources/list for dataset resources, and resources/templates/list for parameterized records. Read a resource with resources/read and a uri argument:

  • 2b2tatlas://dataset: current catalog counts and discovery links.
  • 2b2tatlas://location/{id}: a complete public location.
  • 2b2tatlas://group/{id}: a group and its attributed work.
  • 2b2tatlas://highway/{id}: a public highway or canal.

These are MCP resource URIs, not browser URLs. Replace {id} with the matching catalog ID. Tools return structured results and source links; check JSON-RPC errors and the result's isError before using the content. In research results, a missing or ambiguous location needs resolution before drawing conclusions.
